John passed peacefully in the presence of his beloved family on August 3, 2022 at the age of 96 after a brief illness.

A resident of The Harbourway at Atlantic Shores in Virginia Beach, VA and prior to that The Waterford in North Canton, OH, he had retired in 2000 after serving six consecutive terms as a Plain Township Ohio official, beginning in 1978. He had been a vice president of Frease & Shorr Advertising in Canton OH, was well known earlier as a WHBC newscaster, and then news anchor on Canton's WJAN-TV.

A Navy veteran and graduate of The Ohio State University, John was an active member of various boards and committees and in 1976 he received an American Advertising Federation service award for public service. In 2016, his life was the subject of a President William McKinley Museum documentary video entitled, "A Life Well Lived."

He had acted in several Canton Players Guild shows, played piano with "The Establishment", enjoyed sailing small boats, composed children's stories, and studied religious history. He believed strongly in random acts of kindness, which he received abundantly.

In 1960 he married Nancy B. Wilson, a Canton teacher and active volunteer in her own right. Nancy survives him
