Marjorie Hammond Greene was the youngest of 2 daughters born to J. Kent Greene and Estelle P. Hammond in Chicago, Cook Co, IL. (sister Gladys died very young). Marjorie graduated from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL in 1921. In 1921, she married Schuyler Buell Brandt, Sr. in her hometown of Chicago. She and Schuyler had two sons: Schuyler Buell "Dod" Brandt (Jr) and Kent Hammond Brandt. Sadly, Marjorie became a young widow at Schuyler's tragic death in 1934 due to a drunk driver. She remarried in 1941 to Benjamin Updegraf Baker (no children) and moved from Chicago to Columbus, OH. She and Ben retired to their newly built home on the banks of the Indian River in Indialantic, Brevard Co, FL in 1951. Marjorie lost her eye sight due to glaucoma in 1958 and lived the rest of her life 'sightless' (she would never say she was 'blind'). In 1966, she and Ben moved to Wesley Manor Retirement Community on the banks of the St. Johns River in Mandarin, Duval Co, FL where she died in 1976. She was cremated and her ashes were scattered along the banks of the Indian River in Indialantic, Brevard Co, FL behind her much loved former home. There is no gravestone. Marjorie was a remarkable, intelligent woman who held herself with dignity, class and grace.
