Mrs. James B. Morrison Dies After Brief Illness

Funeral services for Mrs. Caroline Amanda Foutz Morrison, 71, wife of James B. Morrison, who died of pneumonia at her home here Sunday afternoon, were held Tuesday afternoon in the Second ward chapel.

Opening the services, a quartet composed of Misses Madge and Una Peterson, Darrell N.Oldroyd and Ed. Mortensen sang "Abide With Me," W. A. Seegmiller offered the invocation. "My Faith in Thee," a vocal solo by Kenneth L. Hood followed.

N. P. Peterson, in offering consolation to the bereaved family, recalled his early acquaintance with Mrs. Morrison as a young lady of unusual refinement, a quality which characterized her entire life, a girl who won the respect of all who knew her. He spoke of the pioneer period when the parents of Mrs. Morrison, together with the Morrison family, were active in making a worthwhile settlement of this part of the country and when her father, Major Foutz, as he was called, developed skill and a cool head acting as sheriff.

Hartley Greenwood of Central, who also is an old friend of the family, spoke of the time when the Foutz and Morrison families lived in Central, which furnished many prominent civic workers to Sevier valley. He also referred to the time when he stayed with the Morrison family after they moved to Richfield and of how he learned to appreciate and to know the sweet and kindly disposition of the deceased, her devotion to her family and her faithfulness to the gospel.

As a closing number the quartet sang "Guide Me to Thee," and Bishop W. L. Warner, after a few remarks, pronounced the benediction.

Interment was in the city cemetery. Patriarch H. J. Hansen dedicated the grave. It was impressive to see the six sons of Mrs. Morrison acting as pallbearers.

Mrs. Morrison had been confined to her bed but a few days before her death. She had had a slight cold for some time before she became seriously ill but, with her usual energy, had gone about her work and disregarded it as anything serious. Only the last of January, she had come home from California, where she had been spending the winter to join her husband in celebrating their golden wedding on January 30.

Mrs. Morrison was born at Pleasant Grove January 10, 1861, a daughter of Joseph L. and Amanda Childs Foutz. In 1871 her family moved to Central as pioneers building the first home there. About a year later they moved to Richfield on account of Indian troubles at Central. In 1876 the family moved to Coconino county, Arizona, where her father bought Lee's Ferry for the L. D. S. church, and operated it a year. On January 30, 1882, she was married to James B. Morrison in the St. George temple, and the couple came to Richfield, which has since been the family home.

Surviving Mrs. Morrison, besides her husband are ten of eleven children: J. B. Morrison Jr., Ruel Morrison, William Morrison, all of Richfield; L. L. Morrison, Venice, California; Mrs. Estella Goodlander and Miss Gladys Morrison, Alhambra, California; B. D. Morrison, Glendale, California; Mrs. Verona M. Creer,

Seattle, Washington, and Mrs. Sybil M. Terrell, North Whittier Heights, California; 35 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Surviving also are five brothers and sisters: Dr. E. A. Foutz, Ogden; Joseph Foutz, Phoenix, Arizona; Mrs. Delila Michaels and Mrs. Cassie Van Pelt, Spokane, Washington; Mrs. Maggie Nelson, Eager, Arizona. Seven half-sisters and seven half-brothers survive.

All of Mrs. Morrison's son and daughters were called to her bedside before she passed away.
