All of Creola's formal education took place in the Kemper County School System in DeKalb, MS, where she attended New Hope School, Hampton Quarters School, and was a 1954 graduate of Whisenton High School.
On February 8, 1955, she married Lemuel "Lemmie" Houston, the son of Nathaniel Houston and Lodie "Red" Steele Houston, who is also a native of New Hope Community in DeKalb, Kemper County, MS, and they had nine children, five sons and four daughters.
The Houston Family relocated to St. Louis, MO, where they lived for a number of years until they moved to East St. Louis, IL. While there, she attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and had been employed with Judge Wood Hall, Southwestern Bell, and Sunburn College.
Creola Bohannon Houston, age 76, went to sleep in Jesus on July 14, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the home of her daughter and caregiver, Shirley Houston Tillman, in Cool Valley, St. Louis County, MO, and she immediately awoke in that beautiful city called Heaven where no travelers have ever returned with family and friends who had gone on before her there to greet her.
