Sena Katherine "Kate" Ripp, 89, of Grand Island, died Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the V. A. Medical Center. Kate was born April 3, 1923, at Moorefield, Neb. She was the daughter of George and Sena (Pedersen) Kjar.

Survivors are: daughters and son-in-law, Jerrine and George Brugh of York and Glenna Ritchie of Kearney; Grandchildren and their families, Christy Brugh and Nashat Abdel Ghandi and daughter Manat, Amy Brugh and Michael Nicholls and sons, Avery and Reed, Cassie Brugh and Chris Webster, Michelle Brugh, Jayme and Par Davis, Kristen Jacobsen, Zach Kidder and his fiancée Jenna Kruezer, Mallorie Kidder, Karissa Kidder, Brianna Kidder; Sister-in-law, Lois Kjar of Buffalo, Mo. Brother-in-law, Harold Heins of Lexington and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Kate grew up in Moorefield, receiving her education at Moorefield High School graduating in 1939. After graduation she began her nurse's training at Lincoln General graduating with a RN degree in 1942.

Kate entered the U.S. Army on March 1, 1945 and served until Dec. 4, 1945. While in the service she enjoyed playing softball and exercising horses. In 1950 she entered Anesthesia School in Chicago, Ill.

Kate completed her training and in 1952 began working as an Anesthetist in several cities. She married Marvin L. Ripp on September 22, 1951, at Chicago. They moved to Grand Island in 1957 and Kate worked for the St. Francis Hospital and the V. A. Medical Center as Staff Anesthetist until retiring in 1989. Mr. Ripp died in September of 1999 and her daughter Rita R. Kidder died in May of 2002.

Kate enjoyed quilting, needle work and was an excellent seamstress. She loved butterflies.

Kate was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and St. Mary's Quilting Ladies. She was a Catholic Daughters of Americas, Court Ave Maria #1263, a longtime member of Al-A-Non, living the words of the "Serenity Prayer"

Kate is welcomed into heaven by: husband, Marvin Ripp, daughter Rita Rene Kidder, brothers and spouses, Kronborg and Dorothy Kjar, Marvin Kjar, Norman and Doris Kjar and Ferd Kjar and Billie Kjar Heins, sisters and spouses, Dorothy Kjar, Olga and Marion Miller, Gladys and Lyle White.

Burial was in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island, NE. Military honors will be provided by the United Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Team.
