CRESSON Peter P. Parrish, 60, of 1207 2nd St., P.R.R. trainman who served
as Cresson chief of police during the depression, was dead on arrival at Mercy
Hospital, Altoona, at 12:30 a.m. today. He had been ill for only a short time.
Mr. Parrish hired with the railroad as a fireman June 12, 1916. He became
borough chief of police April 9, 1930, after being furloughed by the P.R.R. and
served until he was recalled in 1940.
Active in American Legion activities, Mr. Parrish served as commander of
Cresson Post 238 in 1933 and in 1950 was named a life member.
Mr. Parrish was a past deputy commander of District 20, Cambria County, and
served on various state committees. He was post service officer for eight years
and was chairman of the school patrol committee from 1932 to 1956. He had missed
only two state conventions in the past 30 years.
Mr. Parrish was in the Army from May 1917, to April, 1919, and had served in
France.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church and its Male
Choir and Holy Name Society, B.L.F. & E. and B. of R.T., and Moose Lodge 188.
Mr. Parrish was born Oct. 28, 1899, in Cresson Township, a son of James A.
and Ida (Plummer) Parrish. He was married to Julia Reilly May 31, 1932.
Surviving are his wife, four children, James C. of Cresson, Michael and Mary
Ann, at home, and Peter, who returned to this country yesterday after Army duty
in France; two grandchildren and one brother and four sisters, Charles A. and
Mrs. Agnes Noel and Mrs. Margaret Cassidy of Cresson and Mrs. Mary Bradley and
Mrs. Catherine Lloyd of Pittsburgh.
Two brothers are deceased; Paul and Joseph H., who died Aug. 10, 1959.
Friends are being received in the Casher Funeral Home, Cresson.

held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Cresson.
Interment in church cemetery.
Military honors at graveside in charge of Cresson American Legion Post.
Friends are being received in the Casher Funeral Home, Cresson.
