God was his Wingman Winston Churchill said "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

Cliff Ashby gave his all in life. First as a P-51 pilot in the 356th Fighter Group of the 8th Air Force. He gave for his country. Then as a Fire Chief for Redwood City, CA. He gave for his community. Then married to the same woman for 63 years, raising two boys and three grandkids. He gave as a father and a husband. As a member of the Mormon Church, he was also a Scout Master for over 25 years. He was an unstoppable force of a man who finally succumbed to cancer and will be missed by all who knew him.

His survivors include his wife, Elaine Ashby of Chico; son, Eric (Cheryl) Ashby of Reno, NV; grandsons, Matthew, Duane and Brandon; brother, Chet Ashby.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the L.D.S. Church at 1450 E. Lassen Ave. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brusie Funeral Home.

Fly straight Chief, fly swift... Ease back on the throttle to let the angels catch up and guide the way home. Published in Chico Enterprise-Record on April 30, 2008.
