VETERAN

Our beloved Ariel R. Davis returned to his Heavenly Father on February 6, 1997, at home after an illness, he was 84 years old.

He was born February 14, 1912, the oldest of six children to Rual D. and Mary Kitchen Davis of Provo, Utah. He graduated from Provo High School in 1931 and later graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in physics. He married Dorothy Jean Harding on March 27, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Ariel moved to Salt Lake City, where he worked as a tool maker at the Remington Arms Company until December 1943. He joined the United States Navy in January 1944 and served in the Pacific until December 1945.

After returning home he opened his own business known as the Ariel Davis Manufacturing Company where he manufactured his own lighting inventions. In 1953, he moved his company to Salt Lake City, where he and his brother, Myron, operated the company and sold his stage and industrial lighting equipment throughout the United States and Canada. Ariel held over fifty U.S. Patents for his stage and industrial lightening. He is listed in "Who's Who in America" and "Who's Who in American Theater."

In 1977, Ariel moved back to Provo after his company was sold. He was privileged to use an office in the Clyde Building at BYU where he became proficient in the use of computers. He hoped to help engineering students write and draw their own inventions on the computer. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding the office of high priest.

He is survived by his wife, of Provo; sons, Ronald A. (Ann) Davis, Provo; and Steven R. (Debra) Davis, Sandy; seven grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, George A. Davis, Sandy; Robert E.
