Vera was a graduate of DeKalb Normal School and the Chicago Musical College. Her Grandson, Daniel, also graduated from University of Northern Illinois (Current name for DeKalb Normal School.)
In 1910 she lived at 639 Lombard Avenue in Oak Park, Illinois. Living with widowed mother, Maranda "Myra".
She was married to Edmund Cole Robertshaw on August 23, 1911 at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in the Austin Neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.
Vera was the organist at the Lowes Columbia Theater on F Street in Washington, DC for many years. She began playing for their Silent Movies in 1918. Later, she was employed as Regional Director of Public Recreation in Washington, DC.
At the time of the 1930 Census she lived at 319 Rock Creek Church Road, Washington D. C. Vera's mother and grandmother (Myra & Lydia) were living with Vera and her husband.
Her son, John Adkins Robertshaw, Sr. served in the Navy in World War II. Her grandson John Adkins Robertshaw, Jr served in the U. S. Army military intelligence in the Vietnam War.
Vera Mae Robertshaw died February 18, 1972 and is buried in Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington D. C. Rock Creek Cemetery is owned by the Vestry, the governing body, of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Rock Creek Parish. The Church began as a mission on the Rock Creek Hundreds in 1712 and is the only surviving colonial church in what is now Washington, D.C.
