BUFFALO, Iowa -- Betty Lorraine Kuehl Chester, a resident of Buffalo, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at her daughter's home after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Buffalo. Betty's wishes were to be cremated with no visitation. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Volunteer Ambulance Service or the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa, is assisting the family with arrangements. Betty was born July 4, 1924, in Hills, Iowa, the daughter of Aaron and Nellie (Stimmel) Lake. She married Raymond Kuehl on June 6, 1942, in Davenport. She later married Max Chester on Sept. 18, 1989, in Mountain View, Ark. Betty was a homemaker most of her life and she loved to play bingo and watch the Chicago Cubs baseball games. Survivors include her son, Dennis Kuehl, and his wife, Lora, of Davenport; her daughter with whom she resided, Debbie Wilson, and her husband, James, a very special son-in-law, her daughters, Carol Bernauer, and her husband, Kenneth, and Karen Bernauer, and her husband, James, all of Buffalo; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, Aaron Lloyd Lake, and his wife, Virginia, of Davenport; her sister, Marjorie Collier, of Davenport; and her sister, Dorothy Hanson, and her husband, Harold, of Rock Island, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Beverly, a grandson, Danny Ray Bernauer, and a grandson-in-law, Richard Nissen. A special thank you to June Wilson, for being here when we needed you and thank you to all the VNA and Hospice nurses and aides for their care.
