Mrs. Emily Turner, widow of Mr. John R. Turner and one of the oldest inhabitants of Warrenton, died Thursday morning at five o'clock at the home of her niece, Miss Emily Fletcher. Mrs. Turner was Miss Latham, of Culpeper County, and was in her ninety-second year. In early life she married Mr. Robert C. Newby, of Warrenton. Some years after his death she was married to Mr. John R. Turner, for many years the clerk of the Circuit Court here, who died in 1918. She has since made her home with her nieces, Miss Emily Fletcher and Mrs. C. E. Tiffany.
Though having no children of her own Mrs. Turner had been mother to three families and grandmother to many more, and was affectionately known as "Munna" to the whole family connection. She was known through life for her gracious manners and sweet nature. She retained her faculties to the end of her long life and was in good health up to her last illness. She was a faithful and useful member of the Baptist church throughout her life. The funeral was conducted at her late home on Friday at 3:00 P.M. by her pastor, Rev. C.T. Herndon.
She leaves four step children Mrs. Harry Shepperd of Anniston, Ala., Mrs. Bissell Anderson of Charleston, S.C., Mr. Hugh Turner, Newport News, VA and Mrs. W.H. Lewis, Recordtown, VA; four nieces , Mrs. Richard Cook and Mrs. Walter Cook, Baltimore, Md., and Miss Emily Fletcher, Warrenton and one nephew, Mr. T. N. Fletcher, Warrenton.
