Edith Cheek, age 85, of Hamilton, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on Saturday April 23, 2011. She was born in Harlan County, Kentucky on June 19, 1925 the daughter of W. [Willie] B. [Byrd] and Martha (Ellis) Sergent. On September 2, 1950 in Jonesville, Virginia she married Glenn Cheek who passed away July 13, 1999.
Edith was a server in the cafeteria at Champion retiring in 1975. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Hamilton.
She is survived by her son, Daryl (Carol) Cheek of Hamilton; her daughter, Rhonda Cheek of Hamilton; three grandchildren, Robert (Jennifer), Stacy, and Matthew; a great-granddaughter, Grace Ann; a brother, Walter (Beverly Sue) Sergent of Johnson City, Tennessee; a brother-in-law, James R. (Vivian) Cheek of Hamilton; a sister-in-law, Gladys Sergent of Harlan County, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Emmett Sergent; a sister, Mildred Sergent.
Funeral service at Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Ave. with Rev. Kenneth Dugas, and music director Bill Brinkley of Allison Ave. Baptist Church officiating. Entombment in Greenwood Cemetery.
