LOUISBURG, N.C. - Charles L. Toney Sr., 72, of Louisburg, formerly of Comfort, WV, died June 17, 1998, in Louisburg Nursing Center after a long illness.

He was the retired owner of Tidewater Equipment Co. and Cabinet Making.

Surviving: wife, Helen Tharrington Toney; sons, Charles L. Toney II, James D. Toney and Francis M. Toney, all of Louisburg; daughters, Beverly A. Walter of Carmel by the Sea, CA, Areta C. Swire of Lakewood, CO; stepdaughters, Connie Liles and Trisha Davis, both of Raleigh; brother, Frank M. Toney of Louisburg; sisters, Ruth Branham of Augusta, GA, Jeanne Hughes of Bellevue, Neb., Alice Gayheart of Savannah, GA, Elizabeth A. Reese of Milton, WV; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside service was June 19 at Highland Memory Gardens [now known as Lancaster Memory Gardens], Louisburg, with Dr. Larry Williams officiating. Lancaster Funeral Home,Louisburg, was in charge of arrangements.
