CHESAPEAKE - Alexander "Buddy" Fentress, 97, of the 600 block of Edinbury Ave., died Jan. 6, 2008, at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. Born in Princess Anne County, he was the widower of Beatrice Fentress. He was employed by Belt Line Rail Road, Norfolk/Portsmouth for 37 years and was a member of New Light Full Gospel Church, Virginia Beach, and its Deacon's Ministry and Usher Board. He was a World War II Army veteran.
Surviving are his adopted daughter, Lydia Best of Greensville, N.C.; son, James A. Fentress of Chesapeake; brother, Willie J. Fentress of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Jamiliah Deberry (Malik) of Charlotte, N.C., and Rodney J. Fentress (Sara) of Virginia Beach; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Conner Fentress, Camille and Kerrigan Deberry; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by five sisters and three brothers.
A homegoing service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in New Light Full Gospel Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, by Bishop Rudolph B. Lewis. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. Community Funeral Home, Norfolk, is in charge.
