Edwin "Ed" Hartman

Edwin "Ed" Hartman, 81, longtime Ogallala resident, died Saturday, April 21, 2012 in Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Ed was born June 7, 1930 in Guide Rock, Nebr., the son of Carl and Lillie (Leetch) Hartman. He attended schools in Guide Rock, graduating in 1948. He entered the Army on Dec. 3, 1952 and was discharged as Corporal Lieutenant in 1954 at Fort Ord, Cal. He returned to Guide Rock. Ed married and three children were born. They later divorced. In 1965 Ed married the love of his life Roberta Phillips. The couple lived in North Platte and Ed was employed at Orkin Extermination and also installed carpet for Ozzie's Furniture. In 1969 the Hartmans moved to Ogallala to work for the school system and Wheelers Store. He began employment for Union 76 Truck Stop when it first opened in 1971. He retired in 1997. He was active as a volunteer in the community, serving on the Keith County Housing Board, the Boot Hill Committee, and the Cemetery Board. Ed belonged to the RSVP and was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for nearly twenty years. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, hunting, and doing wood work. He especially enjoyed being with his friends and children of all ages and calling in to Midwest Opinions. Preceding him in death were his parents, son Kim Burtis, a grandson Jason Brockman, two sisters Mildred Hartman and Ann Morgan, and four brothers: Delbert, Marlin, Carl, and Duane. Inurnment is in the Ogallala Cemetery with military honors by Keith County Veterans Organization.

Edwin "Ed" Hartman, 81, of Ogallala, died April 21, 2012, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 27, at St. Paul's Lutheran Fellowship Hall with the Rev. John Stubenrouch officiating. The family chose cremation. Inurnment will be at the Ogallala Cemetery with military honors by Keith County Veterans Organization. A memorial has been established. Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge of arrangements.
