Killed in a Well--
A man named Miller, residing some four miles from this village, was fatally injured on Saturday last. He was digging a well, and the large, heavy bucket, covered with ice and frozen earth, became detached from the windlass and, falling a distance of several feet, struck him with such force as to render surgical treatment unavailing. He lived but a few hours--evidently suffering the most intense pain. Mr. M. had the reputation of being an industrious, steady man and had succeeded in acquiring a comfortable home. He leaves a wife and four small children.
---
From his daughter Augusta's obituary, John's arrival in the United States can be calculated as approximately February 1854.
