Andrew J Chambers was the son of William Chambers and his wife Feruby. The family were living in Hillsboro, Scott County, Mississippi according to the 1850 US Federal Census. Children in the home according in 1850 were: Winneford (23), James P (22), Samuel (20), William D (17), Andrew J (15), Samuel (12), George (9), Sarah A (6), Emma (4) and Marian (2).

Veteran of the Confederate States Army

Andrew J Chambers married Sarah M Watts May 27, 1857, in Anderson County, Texas.

By 1880, the family had moved to Fort Worth in Tarrant County, Texas. Children living in the home at that time were Mecon L (22), Albert (13), Andrew (11), Pearl (9), Minnie (8), Mattie (6) and Buddy (1). A cousin, Eugeni Cummins (27) also lived in the home.

Chambers was elected to the Texas State Legislature January 9, 1883, and represented the 34th District (Tarrant County) until January 13,1885.
