Evan Stoakes Wilson was born March 15, 1920 in rural Traer, Iowa to Peter L. and Beulah (Stoakes) Wilson. He attended country school near Traer, graduating from Traer High School in 1938. Evan continued his education at Iowa State University for four years. He moved to California for a time before returning back to help farm the family farm. On May 29, 1953 he was united in marriage to Joyce Selk Karr at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Evan and Joyce farmed near Traer all their married life. His death came on Monday, October 15, 2012 at home at the age of 92 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served on various committees. He also was a member of the Hesperia Lodge # 340 of Traer, Sunrise Hill Care and Rehab Center Board and the Traer Museum Board. Evan was an avid reader and enjoyed having coffee with friends and family and was active on the farm until he became ill. Evan was preceded in death by his parents and half-sister Crystal Aubrey. He is survived by his wife Joyce of Traer; two sons, Rick (Barb) Wilson of Indianola, Iowa, Mark (Sandy) Wilson of Traer; one daughter Rhonda (Dick) Rupert of Bellevue, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and one on the way.
