1938-Oct-22 obituary in Chattanooga Daily Times: Services for S.C. McAlister, pioneer McMinn Countian and farmer and merchant of Calhoun who died suddenly from a heart attack last night will be conducted at the Calhoun Methodist Episcopal Church, South Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. He was 57. Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Miss Pearl McAlister, teacher in the McMinn High School, Athens; Miss Ruth McAlister, teacher in Calhoun High, and Mrs. Reed Maxwell of Chattanooga; one son, C.L. McAlister of Cleveland and two brothers, M.M. McAlister of Etowah and John McAlister of Rome, Georgia. Chattanooga News obit also states he was in the mercantile business in Calhoun for 32 years (1938-32=1906) and dealt extensively in livestock.
