OLD RESIDENT PASSES

Jens Christensen passed away at his home here Thursday, closing a life of industry.

Jens Christensen was born in Odense, Denmark, September 27, 1848. He immigrated to America when he was a young man, at the age of 26 years, and after staying in the east for a year came to Utah, settling at Elsinore. There he joined the LDS Church, and later married an Elsinore girl, Lena Mortensen, in the St. George temple. After spending three years in Elsinore they moved to Castle Valley, but stayed only a year, moving from there to Central, where hey have resided 48 years. Through out his long time of residence here, Mr. Christensen was a successful farmer, known for his honesty and industry.

Mr. Christensen was the father of eight children, two sons having preceded him in death. He is survived by his widow and the following sons and daughters: Chris J. Christensen and Walter Christensen of Central, Mrs. Chris Anderson of Elsinore, Mrs. Hans Yergensen of Monroe, Mrs. Magda Yergensen of Monroe, Mrs. Mattie Christensen of Central. Twenty-six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren survive, together with the following brothers and sisters: H.P. Christensen and Miller Christensen of Salt Lake City, Mrs. L. Knudsen of California and Mrs. Margaret Larsen of Denmark.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at central. The music was furnished by the ward choir, directed by Mrs. Heber Christiansen. Hartley Greenwood offered the invocation. Speakers were N.C. Sorensen of Richfield, J.L. Staples of Elsinore and G.A. Staples. A biographical sketch of Mr. Christensen was read by Bishop O.C. Anderson. The benediction was pronounced by Chris M. Sorensen. Interment took place in the Central cemetery.
