"Bob" Stafford was born to Robert R. Stafford, Sr. and wife, Norma Karnopp Stafford in Chicago, Illinois in January, 1924. He grew up on the North Shore, and developed a love of boats and the water that lasted his entire life. He graduated from the North Shore Country Day School in 1941, and entered Amherst College in Amherst, MA. He was at college for two years until the war interrupted his studies. In 1943, Bob joined the U.S.A.A.F., becoming a navigator and bombardier, though he never went overseas. Bob was Honorably discharged as a 2nd Lt. He then returned to Amherst College after the war ended, and obtained his B.A. with a duel major in biology/history.
On December 30th, 1947, Bob married his childhood friend and former neighbor, Edna M. Skinner,in Evanston, Ill at the chapel of Northwestern University. They would later move south to Florida; first to West Palm Beach, and finally to Jacksonville Beach, where they would remain until their deaths.
The couple would have three sons: Robert, Frederick and Stephen.
Bob was a chief real estate appraiser for the Army Corp. of Engineers, Civilian Division. This took him to Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Panama, the Dominican Republic, and other areas...and he took away a life long love of the Caribbean as a result. He was also a Flotilla Commander in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and enjoyed travel, history, and the sea.
Bob passed away from Mesothelioma on Independence Day, 1997.
