Jacob Brasser was the son of Willem Brasser and Janna Adrianna Verhage. His parents both immigrated with their families from the Netherlands and then married in the United States. Jacob was one of seven children and was born in New York. His family moved to Wisconsin when Jacob was about three years old.
On December 30, 1873, Jacob married Gezina Weavers (born Dec 20, 1850). Jacob and Gezina settled just outside of Oostburg, WI and built the "Brasser Homestead"; a farm that would later be passed down for generations. Together they had a daughter named, Jennie (also known as "Janie"); born February 10, 1875. After only eight years of marriage, Gezina Weavers died on November 21, 1881. Their daughter Janie died at the age of 26, just 6 weeks after her marriage to John Wassink.
In 1884, at the age of 34, Jacob married 21 year old Josephine Pietenpol. Jacob and Jospehine had six children (in birth order): Benjamin William "Ben"; Henriette "Hattie"; Lena; Emma; Ruby; and Lewis Herbert Brasser (my grandfather).
Jacob Brasser was tragically killed at the age of 59 when he was thrown from a horse carriage on the 8th street bridge in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
He is remembered with much love by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
