MEMPHIS - Thomas Wayne "Tom" Fly, 54, died Saturday, July 17, 2010, at the Memphis V.A. Medical Center after a sudden illness. A native of Amory, he was born Feb. 14, 1956, to Alvin and Earline Baker Fly. In 1972, he graduated from Shannon High School and later earned a degree in photography at New Mexico College in Albuquerque. He served in both the U.S. Army and the Air Force from 1972-1975. He enjoyed collecting coins and military memorabilia. He volunteered at the V.A. Hospital and was one of five chosen in Memphis as one of the 1000 Points of Light Volunteer Program.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Danny Robbins officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.

Survivors include his son, Noii Fly; two sisters, Beverly Ford of Tupelo and Barbara Sellars of Plantersville; two brothers, Donald Fly of Nettleton and Bill Fly of West Bend, Wis.; eight nieces, Stephanie Sanders of Tupelo, Cheryl Ford of Tupelo, Kim Williams of Memphis, Becky Barthel of Marshall, Texas, LaRee Chapuis of Sardis, Barbara Spangler of New Waverly, Texas, Andi Gonzales of West Bend, Wis., and Missy Bristow of Tupelo; six nephews, Tim Barnett and Tracy Barnett of Saltillo, Bryan Moses of Plantersville, Russell Dunn of Willis, Texas, and Mark Fly of Sandy Springs, Ga.; 29 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 23 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; a special friend and caregiver, Jo Ann Holt of Memphis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bettie Jo Bowers; and a great-nephew, John Lawrence.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Moses, Tracy Barnett, Tim Barnett, Adam Iram, T.J. Barnett, David Baker and Matt Sanders.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Harville, Johnny Dickerson and Mike Rollins.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, One St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
