Born in 1876, "Annie" (as everyone called her) was the third of 12 children and the eldest girl. She married Leonard Werner about 1905. He was a miner early on, but by 1917 they operated a small popular grocery store in Pana. The store was located about 200 feet north of the intersection of East 7th street with U.S. Hwy 51. After her husband's death in 1938, Annie continued to operate the store, on her own, until shortly before her death in 1955. The Werners had no children.
