Mr. Kanuch was born in Congo, Ohio on August 13, 1926 and made his home in Elyria, Ohio most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and received the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. He was a member of St. Jude Church and was employed by Bendix Westinghouse for 30 years.
Mr. Kanuch was a member of the VFW Post 1079. An amateur baseball player, he enjoyed his children and grandchildren, going to the race track and the casino. Mr. Kanuch enjoyed fishing and was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians.
Surviving are his wife of 14 years, Julia (nee Heinemann); one daughter, Linda (John) Keys of Elyria, Ohio; and three sons, Jeffery (Darlene) Kanuch of Oberlin, Ohio, Scott Kanuch of Elyria, Ohio and Mark (Donna) Kanuch of Oberlin, Ohio; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aletha in 1994; and twelve brothers and sisters; and his parents, Joseph and Mary (nee Dukeman) Kanuch. Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Ohio on Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 9:30 A.M. until closing prayers at 10:00 A.M. The Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem, Pastor of St. Jude Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, Ohio where the VFW Post 1079 will conduct full military honors.
