Coley Cain is Buried Following Rites Here

Attended by a group of relatives and friends of the family who overflowed the Cain residence at 715 Gaston Street, funeral services for Coley V. Cain were conducted yesterday afternoon. Two Raleigh ministers, the Rev. C. W. Robbins, of Jenkins Memorial Methodist Church and the Rev. Harvey A. Cox, of St. Saviour's Episcopal, were in charge. Interment took place in the cemetery of the Knightdale Baptist Church.

A score or more of floral designs covered the casket of Cain. One floral piece was sent jointly by Worth ("Tick") Proctor, LeRoy Faison and Clarence C. Hamilton, friends of Cain who are now serving long prison terms. Proctor was reared in the same neighborhood with Cain.

Raleigh police, who had been active in seeking Cain's recapture and who arrested him a year ago today on charges resulting in his drawing a 33-year prison sentence, furnished two motor cycle officers to escort the funeral cortege from the residence to the eastern city limits as it left for Knightdale.

Mrs. Reta Cain, widow of the 23-year=old Raleigh fugitive, was not among those attending the services. His mother, Mrs. Mattie Cain, was accompanied by two other sons, Lattie and Tom Cain, as she entered a car to attend last rites at Knightdale.

A group of young men, friends of Cain during his boyhood, acted as pallbearers.
