Early in their married live, they moved to Southern California. Ed worked as a machinist and developed his own horse business. He shod, trained, raised, and traded horses. He loved to rodeo and show off his horses. He was a member of the Montrose Sheriff's posse and led many rides.
He later lived in Oregon. He moved back to Southern California where he died on 20 May 2003 in Palmdale, California.
He was cremated and his ashes were scattered over the campground where he sponsored a campout each year for the many people with horses in his circle.
