Charlie passed away on Wednesday April 18, 2012 in Lamesa. He was born on January 23, 1940, in Bowie County, Texas to Everett Leon and Amie Semple (McCuller) Batchelor. He married Wanda "Ruthie" Israel and to that union were born three sons, Charlie, Jackie and Kerry. Charlie married Janet Merritt on June 12, 1998 in Lovington, New Mexico.
Charlie was a big family man. He enjoyed drag racing and sports. The Dallas Cowboys and Lady Raiders were his favorite teams. He loved water sports, but he would only drive the boat. He watched Joel Osteen every Sunday morning on television. Charlie made his living and supported his family by working in the oilfield.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Batchelor of Lamesa, children, Charles Batchelor and wife, Lisa of Spring, Jackie Batchelor and wife, Lori of Big Lake, and Kerry Batchelor and wife, Joni of Lamesa; step-children, Johnnie Stone and wife, Ann of Lubbock, James Stone and wife, Donna of Lubbock, Tracy Stone and wife, Cherry of Idalou, Richard Stone and wife, Lisa of Lubbock, and Jack Stone and wife, Amy of Lubbock; sisters Amie Cleo Batchelor Brewer and husband, Pat of Hugo, OK, Oleta Brock of Shawnee, OK, and Margaret Hodgson of Omaha; brothers, Jimmy Batchelor and wife, Dolly of Sims, and Roger Batchelor and wife, Mary of Greenwood; and brother in-law Max Richey, of Houston. Charlie had 22 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Shirley Ritchie.
Funeral services for Charlie Richard Batchelor, 72, of Lamesa were held on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Crestview Baptist Church with Bro. Clifton Igo officiating. Burial followed in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation was held on Friday, April 20, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.
