West Point graduate of 1937. Taken prisoner in the Philippines. He survived the Bataan Death March andalso survived the sinking of the Oryoku Maru on December 15, 1944. He was wounded aboard the Enoura Maru on January 9, 1945 and and later died from his wounds.

SILVER STAR CITATION:
Captain (Coast Artillery Corps) Godfrey Roland Ames (ASN: 0-20671), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Commanding Officer, Battery C, 60th Coast Artillery Regiment (Anti-Aircraft), in action in the Philippine Islands in 1942. Captain Ames' gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
