Catharina was born Catharina Ihfe in then Prussia. She married "Fritz" Ahrens before immigrating with their son Nicholas on the "Gellert" to America in 1879. Fritz died in Illinois after the birth of their third child, Wilhelmina Ahrens (1883), and Catharine married for the second time to a widower, Mr. F. Freytag, in April 1883. They went on to have 6 more children together. Her youngest daughter, Anna, was mother to Mayme Fehrenz Busche. Mayme was still living in the Red Bud area in 2009. Catharina's youngest daughter, fathered by her first husband, Fritz Ahrens, Wilhelmina, married August Wahlman and they moved to Nebraska in 1907. They later moved on to Arizona.
