The funeral for Thomas Milton "Red" Grooms, 71, of 405 Beason Road, Orangeburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Smoak officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Grooms died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Mr. Grooms was born June 3, 1932, in Horn Lake, Miss., a son of the late Robert M. and Lucille Grooms. He was retired from Albemarle Corp. He was a Baptist and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Red was an avid bowler and fisherman and loved to cook outside and tell jokes. He was a devoted husband and he and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary August 23.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty R. Kemmerlin Grooms of the home; four daughters, Kem Williamson, Orangeburg,
Marilyn Bowman, Salley, Margaret Lyn Grooms and Barbara Foxworth, both of Orangeburg; his boys and girl, David Rarl Shoemake Sr., Bobby Shoemake, Johnny Shoemake, Pat Harrison, and Jimmy Shoemake (deceased); three sisters, Emilie Long, Huron, Ohio, Flo Carmell, Alma, Ark., and Betty Cropper, Memphis, Tenn.; four brothers, Floyd A Grooms, Monroe Falls, Ohio; ML "Dick" Grooms, Sardis, Miss., William Grooms, Olive Branch, Miss., and John Alvin Grooms, Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Benji (Crystal) Williamson, Mrs. Ron (Michelle) Baxley, Mary and Nikki Bowman, and Tabitha Brunson; four great-grandchildren, Amber, Dillon, Emilee Williamson, and Chad Baxley.

Dukes-Harley Funeral Home in Orangeburg is in charge of arrangements.
