Scott was a lawyer and judge of General Court of the Indiana Territory for 18 years. He move to Clark County Indiana where he was appointed by Gov. William Henry Harrison as Clark County prosecutor in 1810.
He served as an Indiana State Representative in 1813, then resigned that position to become a chancery judge. After signing the constitution, he served on the Indiana Supreme Court from 1816 to 1830.
