Services Today
Graveside services for Mrs. Violet K. Frankel, widow of the late Henry M. Frankel, were to be held at Riverside Cemetery today at 4 p.m.
Mrs. Frankel, and 87-year old South Main Street resident, died unexpected at her home at 1:15 a.m. today. Her death was attributed to a heart attack.
A native of Tennessee, Mrs. Frankel was born at Clarksville on July 8, 1871, the daughter of the late William and Emelia Rothschild Kleeman. She moved to this city at an early age and spent the rest of her life here.
Her husband and his brother, the late Sam Frankel, operated the old Frankel Department Store, probably the most flourishing business in the early history of Hopkinsville's business district. It occupied the spaces now used by the J. C. Penny Company and Hill's Firestone. Mr. Frankel died in 1927.
Despite her advanced years, Mrs. Frankel remained in good health until she was stricken suddenly last night. She celebrated her last birthday on July 8 at a family reunion at which all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were present.
Survivors include two children, Mrs. Emelia F. Cayce and Malcolm D. Frankel, both of the city; three grandchildren, Mrs.Keith Hubbard and Henry M. Frankel II, both of the city, Mrs. Lawrence Sherman of Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., and six great-grandchildren.
One Grandson, Malcolm Frankel Jr. was killed during World War II.
Today's services were conducted by Rabbi Bloom, West End Temple, Nashville, with the Fuqua Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were to be Wilham. M. Metiowan, Pax King Jr., W. B. Anderson Jr., Pedro Stamper, Harry Wooldridge and Brooke Lawson.
