William Kleeman was born on May 6, 1835 in Bavaria, Germany.

He migrated to America about 1852 and was married [probably in New York] to Emelia Rothchild (1839–1890), who was also from Bavaria.

They were in New York when their 1st child was born and moved on to Illinois before their 2nd child came along, while the family's final move was to Clarksville, Tennessee about 1865.

William was involved in the business interests of Clarksville for many years. He had also been actively associated with the municipal affairs of the city and was a member of the City Council at various times. He was a prominent Mason, and had devoted many years of his life to that fraternity.

A butcher, William was 80 years old and a widower when he died of pneumonia on July 31, 1914 in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Survivors included sons Seward Kleeman of Chicago, Illinois, Isaac Kleeman and Edward Kleeman of Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Artur Kleeman of Nashville, Tennessee, daughters Mrs Daisy Bromberg of Nashville and Mrs Violet Frankel of Hopkinsville, brothers Max Kleeman of Terre Haute, Indiana and a brother in Germany.

Funeral Services were held at the home of Isaac Kleeman, and burial was on August 2nd in Greenwood Cemetery, with the Masons in charge of the burial ritual.

Most of the above information is from his Death Certificate, with Isaac Kleeman of Clarksville as the informant. Additional info was provided by Find a Grave member with William's published obituary in Hopkinsville Kentuckian of Hopkinsville, Kentucky on August 4, 1914.
