James Atley Clarke, 80, retired farmer, and a resident of the Milton area until moving to Beloit in 1963, died Thursday, May 9, at Rock Haven, Janesville, where he had resided for the past four years.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 13, at 2 p.m. in the Albrecht Funeral home, Rev. Richard Jones, pastor of Faith United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Milton Cemetery. The son of James and May Thompson Clarke, he was born Feb. 11, 1888. He was married to Lottie McQueen March 6, 1918, in Lima, and the couple farmed until he retired in 1940 and moved to Milton Junction. He was a member of the Milton Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Burton Clarke, Beloit; a granddaughter, Mrs. James Blair, and three great-grandchildren, all of Beloit. Preceding him in death were his wife, who died in 1963, and a son, Burton, who died Jan. 27, 1968; one brother and two sisters.
