Henry Clay DENNIS (b. 1 Jun 1844 OH - d. 11 Jun 1916 Red Owl, Meade Co, SD) was the son of Hiram DENNIS & Mary Ann McKINLEY. He m. 10 Mar 1867 to Maggie E. BRAY in Whiteside Co, IL.

He served with the Union Army in the Civil War in Co. G, 147th IL Infantry. He enlisted at Prophetstown, Whiteside Co, IL on 7 Feb 1865 and was honorably discharged in Savannah, GA on 20 Jan 1866.

With his wife, Maggie, they had 7 children.

"OBITUARY: Henry Clay Dennis was born in Ohio June 1st 1844, and died at his home near Red Owl, S. D. on Sunday, June 11th, 1916.
"He was married to Miss Margaret E. Bray at Prophetstown, Illinois, March 10th 1867. To this union were born seven children, three dying in infancy, and Mrs. R. E. Findley, of Red Owl S.D., who passed away last fall. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, three children, Mrs. John Timmons of Stoneville, Edwin C. and Walter H. both of Red Owl, five grandchildren and one great grandchild also one brother in Villisca, Iowa and one sister in Chicago, Ill. And a host of friends.
"Deceased was a veteran of the civil war, having served in an Ill. regiment. He was also a member of the G.A.R.
"Funeral Services were held Tues. morning June 13 at 10 o'clock at the house, conducted by Rev. Wrapp of Clough. The remains were laid to rest in the White Owl* cemetery. ---------- CARD OF THANKS - We wish to express our sincere thanks to the many friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted us during the illness and after the death of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Also for the expressions of sympathy and the beautiful flowers. Mrs. Maggie Dennis; John W. Timmons and family; W. H. Dennis and family; Edwin C. Dennis; R. E. Findley; J. A.
