The death of T. Arlin Bice, well known Natchitoches businessman, which occurred early Wednesday morning in Natchitoches, came as a shock to his many relatives and friends in Winn Parish. Mr. Bice, was a native off Couley community and Calvin, Winn Parish, and had been residing in Natchitoches for the past 19 years
Dr. James Kaufman, acting Natchitoches Parish coroner, said Bice had been suffering recently from a kidney ailment. His body was found in Bice Furniture Store by Pappy Weeks of Natchitoches. Death was attributed to a bullet wound in the chest. A 3_ calibre rifle was found at the scene. The investigators reported no sign of foul play.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Natchitoches First Baptist Church with the Rev. Perry Webb, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Couley [sic Memory Lawn] Cemetery [in Natchitoches].
Bice was a veteran of the Navy during World War II and was active in civic and church work in Natchitoches. He was past president of the Rotary Club, a Shriner, a Mason, a deacon and treasurer of the Natchitoches Baptist Church.
Mr. Bice operated a furniture store which he opened several months ago. He also recently purchased a restaurant. He formerly had operated two supermarkets in Natchitoches.
He is survived by his widow, the former LaMae Lattier, of Natchitoches; one son, Billy, on duty with the Navy in the Pacific; one daughter, Mrs. Laird Fletcher of Natchitoches; two brothers, Garland Bice of Natchitoches and Buford Bice of Bartlesville, Okla.; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Rikard of Couley, Mrs. Annie Keaton of Winnfield, and Mrs. Belva McLamore of Wheeling, and three grandchildren.
