VALLEY -- Mrs. Mary Nell Fetner , 74, of Valley died Friday, July 26, 2002 at her residence.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 28 at 3 p.m. at Langdale Congregational Christian Church with the Revs. Don Sailer and Albert Thornton officiating. Entombment followed in the Resthaven Mausoleum.

Mrs. Fetner is survived by her husband, Melvin Fetner; four daughters, Michele (Greg) Crowder of Lee County, Ga., Cynthia Rogan of Medford, Ore., Jeanne Fetner of Valley and Tina Wilhite of Gray, Ga.; her son, Melvin E. (Karen) Fetner Jr. of Valley; three sisters, Lena Pearl Williams, Eula Mae Ward and Betty Jo Newton, all of Huguley; her brother, J. Tyler Ragland of Huguley; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Born March 1, 1928 in Tift County, Ga., Mrs. Fetner graduated from the Jefferson-Hillman Nursing School at U.A.B. After graduation, she attended the Vanderbilt University OB Nursing School. Mrs. Fetner had been a resident of the Valley area since 1972 and had practiced nursing locally since that time. She had been married to Melvin Fetner for over 49 years. In all, she had been a practicing registered nurse for 52 years.

Mrs. Fetner had recently received the honor of being a Nationally Certified Gastro-Enterology Nurse. She had also been written up in the U.A.B. Nursing School Alumni News as practicing nursing for over 50 years.

She was an active member of Langdale Congregational Christian Church where she belonged to the Silver Star Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the S.G.N. Association.

Mrs. Fetner was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the daughter of the late Maggie S. Whitehead Ragland and Joseph Ragland.

The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and asks that memorials be made to Langdale Congregational Christian Church or to the American Leukemia Society in her memory.
