Norma Jean E. Scharf, 77, of Fort Dodge, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.

The service honoring Norma's life will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lyle Hansen officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
Norma is survived by her children, Bill (Kay) Scharf, Roxie Scharf, Brad (Jann Anderson) Scharf, and Dee (Kent) Fors, all of Fort Dodge; and Sandi (Doug) Gangstead, Goldfield; grandchildren, Cody (Amber) and Logan Scharf, Mackenzie, Jacy and Neely Scharf, Hunter, Cierra and Chandler Fors, and Danae and Dustin (Mikaela) Gangstead; one great-grandchild due in June; sisters, ArdaBella Oppedahl, Humboldt; Phyllis Pressler, Minnesota; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Colleen (Roger) Smith, Duncombe; Bruce (Marcia) Scharf, Grimes; Dean (Alice) Scharf, Duncombe; Phyllis (Colin) Demery, Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. Norma Jean was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Emmett Scharf, her daughter Michelle Scharf; and her parents.

Norma Jean Eileen Deppe, the daughter of Emil and Hazel (Kirchoff) Deppe, was born January 5, 1935 in Webster County, Iowa. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1954. On June 20, 1954, Norma Jean was united in marriage to Arthur Emmett Scharf at Bethel Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. She was a lifelong resident of Fort Dodge. For 53 years, Norma Jean was a floral designer and was employed with Highland Greenhouse, Becker's and Flowers by Vernon.

Norma Jean was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was president of Ruth Circle, a member of the Ladies Aid, was a Sunday school teacher and member of the church choir. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and made many blankets lovingly given to stillborn infants. Norma Jean and Arthur were foster parents for many years to many children. Norma Jean especially treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, family members and friends.
