He was a lifelong resident of Panola County, moving to Carthage in 1960. He worked as a self-employed carpenter in his early years, and retired as a heavy equipment operator for Panola County, Texas.
He married Nettie Lee Cole 7-23-1938 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifton Nichols. he is survived by his wife, Nettie Lee Nichols; a son, Thomas M. Nichols III; two daughters, Billie Nell Longshore and Hazel Hughes; two brothers, Raymond and Noble Nichols; three sisters, Fern Lawless, Lillie Reeves, and Mittie Blalock.
Tom died in Panola General Hospital in Carthage, Texas.
