William H. Johns, 75, of Pittsburg, passed away at 2:22 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2007, at the Sunset Manor Nursing Center, Frontenac. He was born February 15, 1932 at Pittsburg, Kan., the son of Henry F. and Nannie B. Brown Johns. He attended Pittsburg schools and had several hours of college. Mr. Johns was self-employed as owner of Johns Distributing Company.

Mr. Johns was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Navy from 1952 until 1956.

On February 12, 1955 he was united in marriage to Ida May Thomas in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and she survives at the home.

He was a member of the Independent Bible Baptist Church, and a former member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star.

In addition to his wife he is survived by five step sons, Larry Baker of Miami, Okla., Anthony "Tony" Clinton, Allen J. Clinton, Charles "Chuck" Clinton, all of Pittsburg and Jerry D. Clinton of Overland Park, Kan.; six sisters, Lottie Phillips, Dorothy Jacks, Shirley Hemby, Vicky Dibble, Debra Beasley and Nancy Alexander; two brothers, Roy Johns and James Johns, both of Pittsburg; 15 step grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren.

Mr. Johns was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Pryor and Dolly Browning.

Graveside services for Mr. Johns will be 11 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 27) at the Garden of Memories Cemetery with Brother Jim Fryer officiating. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. The casket will remain closed. Flag-folding will be provided by the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64 at the graveside. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today to sign the register. Memorials may be given to the Multiple Scheloris Foundation. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg.
