Elizabeth Heath Baker "Betty"
Also known as "Aunt Slim" and "Gee Gee" joined God's angels in Heaven at the age of 96 on April 9, 2012, in Dallas, TX.
She was born on June 6, 1915 in Wilmington, DE, to Rev. Thomas C. Heath and Orlena Cosner Heath. She attended the Forward School in Wilmington, DE and worked as a Law Firm Manager and Executive Secretary for Baker and Woods, a law firm in Puerto Rico, where she worked side by side with her late husband, Robert M. Baker. She has resided in Takoma Park, MD; San Juan, PR, and New York City, NY before moving to Dallas, TX in 2011.
Her hobbies included watching the New York Yankees, church activities and being with and entertaining family and friends. She organized Bazaars and other fundraisers for the church.
She was a member of Christ Church UMC, N.Y.C., where she served on the Church Council; the United Methodist Women where she served on Outreach and Hospitality; and a member of Church Women United. She supported any charities which asked for help but also gave to those less fortunate whenever she could. She is known for her kindness to the homeless, providing a special Christmas party for them and becoming a friend to many of them who "slept" near the church.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine B. Mackay; her adored grandchildren, Robert and Debra MacKay, and great-grandchildren, Christopher and Mathieu MacKay; nieces and nephews, Susan and Albert Hayman; Arthur and Carol Heath; Donald and Helga Heath; Tom and Pam Walsh; Cathy and Dallas Coon and great-nephews and great-nieces. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Merritt Baker; siblings Dr. Frederick C. Heath and A. Cleaver Heath and niece Joanne Heath Cheasley.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 12th at 2:30 pm at Chester Bethel Cemetery, Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
