Richard Wesley Maynard, 40, was the victim of a tractor accident Saturday night when he was apparently thrown from the machine on a county road about two miles southeast of State Center.

Investigating authorities said Mr Maynard may have been run over by the machine, which continued running, and was found in a grove some distance away from the body. The body was found Sunday morning in a ditch, after Don Nolta, by whom Maynard was employed, had notified Marshall County officers he was missing. The Marshall County coroner said Mr Maynard suffered a crushed head and chest.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock from the Wensel Funeral Home in charge of Rev John Perry of Eldora. Burial was in Hillside cemetery.

Pall bearers were George Buck, Carroll Wykle, Don Nolta and Dan Shortley.

Mrs John Maynard, mother of the victim, had passed away just a week previous at a local nursing home.

Richard Wesley Maynard was born August 9, 1919 at State Center, the son of John and Cecile Worrall Maynard. He grew up and was educated in the local schools. He was unmarried.

He is survived by four brothers and four sisters: Lee of Ridgefield, Washington; Raymond of New Providence; Theron of Rochester, Minnesota; William of Hubbard; Mrs Leon Bodie of Rhodes; Mrs Lee Nolta of Melbourne; Mrs Joseph Miller of Casper, Wyoming and Mrs Kenneth Runberg of Wichita, Kansas.
