Eulonia-- Florine Shellman Baker, 84, a native of Eulonia and former resident of Jesup died April 6, 2012, at Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation following a lengthy illness.

She was born Oct. 13, 1927, to the late Florine Weldron and Dr. Lonnie Shellman. " Ma Florine " :Sister" and " Granny," as she was affectionately known by her family and loved ones attended piblic school, in McIntosh County and was a graduate of Todd Grant High School Upon graduating from high school, she attended Madame Caqrgo School of Cosmetology in Savannah, obtaining her certification, and opened her own beauty shops in both Jesup and Baxley.

She accepted Christ into her life at an early age and touched many lives while she served her church and her community. She was a faithful member of Emory Chapel UMC in Jesup before returning to Liberty County to serve as the Mother og Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church until her health began to decline. Her affiliations were Wayne County Prayer Band ll and the McIntosh Shouters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Baker Jr.; a son Calvin "Cooley" Walthour; a stepson, James Baker; and 15 siblings.

Survivors include a brother, Alexander Shellman of Freedom Grove; eight sisters and three brother-in-law, Sadie Gardner and Lottie Alston of Atlanta, Laura and William Burke of Petersburg, Va., Nellie Lee of Suiteland, Md., Bertha and Albert Golphin of Fort Washington, Md., the Rev. Frances and Marshell Howell of Sylvania, Marie Baker of Richmond Hill, and Queen Shellman of Freedman Grove; three granddaughters, TYESE Harvey of Kileen, Texas and Jhamisa White and Patrice Peterson, both of Jacksonville, Fla., whom she raised as her own daughters and their spouses, Juanita Leonard of Hinesville, Christine and Cirtis Carter of Atlanta, Vivian Herman of Dublin, Sandra and Larry Lowe of Junction City, N.Y.; four stepsons and spouses, Richard Baker of Hinesville, Lee Artis and Carol Baker of Allenhurst, Marion and Georgia Baker5 of Yulee, Fla., and Leroy Baker of Phoenix City, Ala; extended family, Zella and Edward Horton oh Jesup, Bobbie and Mazie Fabian of Walthourville, and Allen and Catherine Reese of Montgomery, Ala.; one daighter-in-law, Veronoca Walthpur of Atlanta.; one sistere-in-law, Mae Bell Bryant of Walthourville, one uncle, Lawrence McIver of Eulonia; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday at Royal Funeral Home Chapel from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held April 14 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church, 4424 W. Oglethorpe Hwy., Walthourville.

Interment will be in Taylor Creek Cemetery in Allenhurst.
