Sumner and Deborah had been living with Chander B. in Michigan when she died. She is buried there in Blissfield in Lenawee County. Sumner returned to Ohio and was living with daughter Maria at her home in Sandusky when he died in 1894. Strangely, there was no obituary, and only the briefest note of his passing was reported in the paper. It took years of work for researchers to discover that he had been buried in the Wolcott Cemetery and not sent back to rest beside Deborah as they had sptculated {excerpt from "Life at Lakeside".
