Before Alfred emigrated to America, his oldest daughter Estelle was all ready living in Chicago. She was married to Edward Vekemans. They ran a laundromat.


Therefore they Emigrated to America from Antwerp, Belguim on the ship the U.S.S. Finland on Apr 24, 1913 with six children.

U.S. Naturalization Record revealed Alfred DeSomer born Aug 24, 1869 in Belgium. Emigrated to America in 1913 and was naturalized on Apr 11, 1919 in Illinois at the age of 49.

The 1920 census revealed they were living in Chicago Ward 2, Cook Co, Illinois. They had four sons and one daughter still at home.

The 1930 census revealed their son Julius was the only one still at home. Oddly Arthur DeSoma was living with Joseph Bertrand and his wife listed as son.

The 1940 census reveals he remarried after his wife died. His second wife's name was Mary. Occupation at this time was coopering barrels.
