J H Parkinson of Pomona Dead
Jonathan Henry Parkinson, 81, retired insurance agent and well known resident of Pomona about 39 years, died last night at the home. He had been in failing health three years, death resulting from infirmities of age.
Mr Parkinson was born in Appanoose township, Franklin County January 16, 1862, son of Jonathan H and Sophia (Freel) Parkinson. He was married to Ella Culver Neal in October, 1920 at Pomona. The widow, a daughter Mrs W.O. Davis, Little Rock, Ark and a sister, Mrs Mary Blackwell, Baker, Ore. survive. He went to Pomona from Wagoner, Okla.
He left the farm north of Pomona at the age of 10 to enter the schools there. Later, for many years he operated a general merchandise store in Pomona. He was mayor, and served as postmaster eight years. He was also agent for the Missouri Pacific railway at Pomona. He was in insurance business there until about a year ago when he retired because of ill health.
The funeral is to be at Pomona Methodist church Sunday at 2 p.m. with interment in Woodlawn cemetery, Pomona. He was a member of the Pomona Masonic lodge, and a 32nd degree Mason, and Masons are to take part in the funeral rites.
