Mother of 16 Succumbs At S.L. Home
TOOELE - Mrs. Elizabeth Shields Murray, 67, mother of one of Utah's largest families, died Sunday of a cerabral hemorrhage at the home of her daughter Mrs. Helen Holden, Salt Lake City.
In 1936 Mrs. Murray and her 15 living children were invited as one of Utah's largest families to join in the Covered Wagon days celebration in Salt Lake City.
Mrs. Murray was born in Lake View, Utah county, Dec 28, 1877 a daughter of Gillespie Shields. In 1893 she married Robert A. Murray, who survives. Of her 16 children 15 survive, George S., Wilber, Gilbert, John, Ellis Murray, Mrs. Marvel Gowans, Mrs. Fern Gowans, Mrs. Florence McClusky, Mrs. Gladys Hamilton, Tooele; Earl, Blueberry; Robert O., Los Angles, Cal,: Mrs. Naomi Woodward, Riverton, Salt Lake County; Mrs. Faye Foster, Sacramento, Calif; MM 1/c Afton L. Murray, U.S. Navy, Guam, and Mrs. Helen Holden, Salt Lake City.
Mrs. Murray is survived also by 57 granchildren eight of whom are in the armed forces; six great granchildren, and the following brother's and sisters; Peter G., Robert G., William G., and Arthur G. Shields, Tooele; James G. Shields, Delta, Millard County; Melvin G. Shields, Arcadia, Cal., and Mrs. Isabel Shields, Lake View.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Tooele First LDS ward chapel Wednesday at 2 p.m. by Byron Anderson, bishop.
Friends may call at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Gowans, 34 W., 2nd Forth Sat., Tooele, Tuesday and Wednesday until time of services. Trial will be Tooele City entry direct by Tooele Funeral home.
