Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) - April 7, 2002

Our precious, beautiful mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away Wednesday April 3, 2002 at the age of 80. She is the last of a true legacy, being the youngest of 16 children, 15 of whom lived to adulthood.
She was born May 21, 1921 to Robert Alexander Murray and Elizabeth Shields Murray in Bluebell,
Utah. She graduated from Altamont High School. She married her eternal sweetheart, Orvel Ray Hamilton on August 16, 1941. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gladys met her many trials and challenges with great courage, charm and dignity. Even during the hardest times she would smile. She never lost her sense of humor. Gladys loved to ride horses with her family and friends. She enjoyed competing in horse shows. Orvel and Gladys were among the earliest members of the Tooele Bit & Spur Riding Club. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family, dancing, reading and the Utah Jazz. She had a great love for music, but most of all she loved her good ol' western music.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by brothers and sisters whom she loved dearly: George (Scott), Jessie Wilbur (Wib), Gilbert (Gib), Robert Otto, John (Jack), Earl (Bud), Lloyd Ellis, Afton, Marvel Gowans, Helen Holder, Fay Foster, Fern Gowans, Naomi Woodard, Florence Jacobs, and baby Alice. She is survived by three sons and two daughters: Bardell and Jeanette (Salt Lake), Wayde and Carla (Colorado), Craig (Tooele), Jolene Walker (Tennessee), Corrinne and Rex Day (Delta), many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces and nephews who had a very special place in her heart. We will miss her and her zest for life.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 8, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at the Tooele South Stake Center 1025 Southwest Dr. (910 So 750 W.) A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary 110 So Main St. Tooele and Monday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to funeral services. Interment will be in the Tooele City Cemetery.
