Carol Nedrow Marotz Comstock, 97, of Ashton, died May 17, 2017 of causes incident to age.

She was born February 2, 1920 in Ashton, to Simon Albert and Mamie Ethelyn McBee Nedrow. Carol grew up on a ranch in Ora, the seventh of eight children. She walked, rode horses, and occasionally skied to the Ora grade school. She continued her education at North Fremont High School, graduating as Valedictorian in 1938.

Carol married George Marotz in 1939 and moved to Greentimber where they raised four children while developing a certified seed potato farm. George died in 1989.

Carol was the oldest member of the Ashton United Methodist Church when she died. She was an actively participated in the Methodist women’s Fellowship Society until her marriage to Robert Comstock Sr. in April 2005. He died in 2014.

Carol actively supervised her children’s activities as they were growing up. She was State Chapter Mother of FHA (Future Homemakers of America) when Ramona and Toni were in high school. Carol and George took Toni, Don, and Lane, to ski races in Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming when they were young. Carol was a 4-H leader when her sons Don and Lane were growing up. Carol actively supported Don during the two years he served as a page in the Idaho State Senate. When Lane was a wrestler she took the North Fremont wrestling team to the state match in Boise.

Carol and George were active members of the Greentimber School Fellowship Club. She enjoyed playing pinochle into her 80s and took her husband, Bob Comstock Sr. with her to the occasional card party.

Carol was always involved in civic and community affairs. She was Chairman for Fremont County Republican Women for 35 years. She was an active Rebecca in the Ashton Lodge, holding all the offices over the years. The Rebecca’s presented her with a special honor for her many outstanding years of service.

Carol was an avid outdoors woman. She grew up riding horses and snow and water-skied as an adult. She and George traveled from Alaska to Chile. They liked to camp, especially with grand children. For many years she and George rode the snowmobile he made. Later they covered many miles, each on a modern snowmobile in Greentimber, Yellowstone Park, and other areas.

Carol loved flowers and grew some of the loveliest roses in the country. One year she grew over 400 choice iris and other carefully tended flowers.Carol loved visits from friends and family. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves behind three children on the Marotz side: Ramona Marotz-Baden, Toni Marotz and Don Marotz; nine grandchildren: Brett Baden, Greg Marotz, Shannon Marotz, Justin Marotz, David Marotz, Lori Williams, Melanie Barnett, Sharon Williamson and Chelsie Bruderer; and 23 great-grandchildren. On the Comstock side she leaves behind Robert Comstock Jr,, his brother; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 20, at the Ashton LDS Stake Center immediately after services for her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Marotz, with the Rev. Desi Larson officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both times at the stake center.

Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ashton Living Center for their group activities.
